The meeting by Celiarts The meeting by Celiarts
This drawing is my entry for the :icondisney-club: and :icondisney-fusion: crossover contest.

I draw Pocahontas and Tigerlily together, because I love Native American culture :D
I think they have a lot in common, they are proud and brave girls, and they probably could get along with one another. :)

Pocahontas is a character that is a really good role model, but in some ways, that ends up working against her.  I do not think she could really grow as a character.  It looks like she should be treated as the mentor instead of a main heroine, it would play more to her strengths.  A lot of people think this is the worst film of the Disney Renaissance (although still not that bad, it sure beats what Don Bluth was doing around that time) and these people would probably more or less say that Disney was trying way too hard to get nominated for another Oscar for Best Picture (as Beauty and the Beast had).

At the other end of the Native American portrayal spectrum, we have Tiger Lily.  Thing is, I do not really hate her, it's just that Peter Pan was released before Brown V Board of Education and if black people were still acceptable targets back then, I would expect Native Americans to be even more so.  Seriously, listen to What makes the Red Man Red, it has every negative Native American stereotype outside of gambling and alcoholism. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_at9d… Again, I don't hate the character, that is just how Native Americans were treated in 1953.  In fact, I would dare say Pocahontas was trying too hard to make up for that musical number.

In fact, I do not hate either of these characters.  I am just telling it the way it is.

that effect with the touching hands is almost magical, almost like Adam and the Lord touching fingertips in the Sistine Chapel ceiling
